Ten most popular Asian Meat Dishes

Asian cuisine is full of juicy, flavorful and tender meat dishes that complement the diversity of Asian cuisine. Here are great ten Asian meat dishes with an overview of the spices, preparation methods and culture behind the dish.

Chicken Biryani

Chicken biryani is one of the most widely-known rice dishes using spicy rice cooked in chicken stock with spices and yogurt and fried onions. It is a joint type of treatment in which the chicken is marinated and mostly in spices or yoga and rice is placed on top of the chicken before boiling. Flavourings used in this preparation include saffron, cardamom and bay leaves, making some of the most aromatic dishes in South Asian countries.

Chicken Karahi

Chicken karahi is a dish from Pakistan that is prepared in a karahi. Green chillies, ginger and garlic-fried tomato pieces are also fried with boneless chicken pieces to prepare a chicken gravy. Seasoned with fresh coriander and a sprinkling of ginger, the chicken karahi works ideally with rice naan or roti. It's an official dish in South Asian families.

Nihari

Nihari originated in the Mughals, as a luxurious preparation cooked very slowly, with beef or lamb, although now chicken is more commonly used. The meat is cooked with spices such as cardamom, cumin and cloves until the meat becomes tender. Nihari is usually eaten as a breakfast dish with naan and a squeeze of fresh ginger and lime.

Seekh Kabab, Chapli Kabab, and Shami Kabab

These three kababs are incredibly popular and distinct in flavour:


  • Seekh Kabab: Spicy minced meat, mainly beef, mutton or chicken, is packed around a skewer and barbecued. Being tender and having a smoky flavor it is a perfect grill companion.

  • Chapli Kabab: A flat round-shaped kebab is prepared with minced meat, spices and chopped onions. Chapli kebabs are crispy fried. They are from the Peshawar region of Pakistan and everyone enjoys them because of their taste and softness.

  • Shami Kabab: Soft, and made of ground meat, lentils and spices, Shami Kababs are a delicious recipe. These are normally shallow fried and normally taken with fresh green chutney which makes them to be taken as a breakfast, supper or anytime snack.

Aloo Gosht

Aloo Gosht is a mutton or beef preparation cooked with potatoes immersed in a rich, hot spice broth. Flavoured with tomatoes, garlic, and a combination of whole spices, Aloo Gosht is a popular hand comfort food Staple in the South Asia region and is usually served with rice or some form of flatbread. The potatoes nicely soak up the spicy meat and it between your toes, making the meal-filling kind of stuff.

Sajji (Roasted Chicken)

This is a Baloch recipe with a whole chicken marinated in salt and garam masala cooked with a special rice filling cooked on charcoal. This will give you perfectly moist and crispy skinned chicken with tender and moist meat. Saji can be eaten with rice or roti and mixed with lime juice. This simple and slightly burnt preparation is very popular in Pakistan.

Chicken Tikka (Grilled Chicken)

Chicken tikka is a fire-roasted item and is basically prepared by marinating boneless chicken in yogurt with turmeric, cumin and garam masala. The chicken is then cooked on the grill or in a tandoor oven, giving it a subtle charcoal flavour. Chicken tikka served with mint chutney is relished across the South Asian region and beyond.

Chargah (Marinated Steamed Chicken)

Chargah is a steamed chicken dish stuffed with spices like cumin, coriander and red chilli powder. Sometimes the chicken is pan-fried for a few minutes to get a crispy brown outside. 

Haleem

Haleem is a light, tasty and filling dish cooked with lentils and wheat on low heat. It should also be mentioned that all the ingredients are cooked together for several hours, so the sauce is creamy. Haleem topped with fried onions, ginger and green chillies is incredibly nutritious and popular during Ramadan.

Paya

Known also as trotter soup, Paya is a rich soup made from goat, cow, or lamb’s trotters. The bones are simmered for hours with spices, garlic and ginger to make them soften and become collagen-rich bones and gelatinous in texture. The outcome is an extremely tasty, heavily spiced nutrient dense fresh meat based stew commonly served with naan or roti.

Palak Gosht (Spinach Meat)

Palak Goosh is another delicious, healthy and gravy-based dish in which chunks of beef lamb or mutton are cooked with spinach. Spinach and ground beef are sautéed with onions, ripe tomatoes and a mixture of spices to prepare the green gravy. However, spinach ensures that people are getting their required levels of nutrients and protein when they are eating.
